Dear University colleagues:
The Thomas Jefferson Awards Committee is now soliciting nominations for the awards that will be presented at the Fall Convocation on Friday, October 31, 2014, at 2 p.m., in the John Paul Jones Arena. These are the highest honors given to members of our community. Nominees should be members of the community who best exemplify in character, work, and influence the principles and ideals of Thomas Jefferson, and thus have advanced the objectives for which Jefferson founded the University.
One award, sponsored since 1955 by the McConnell Foundation, recognizes excellence in service to the University. The other, which was established in 2009 by the Alumni Board of Trustees Endowment Fund, recognizes excellence in scholarship. Recipients must have been at the University for at least 15 years. Those who have retired are not eligible. Each award consists of a citation and a cash prize. Additional information regarding these awards may be found at www.virginia.edu/majorevents/convocation/honors.html.
Nominations with supporting data (e.g., resume/curriculum vita, letters) are to be submitted by e-mail to the chair of the Thomas Jefferson Awards Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org by noon on Thursday, September 25, 2014. It is important that you include the name of the nominee (first and last name) in the subject line (e.g., John Smith Nomination). If you encounter problems submitting the packet electronically, please contact Pam Higgins at 434-982-3099 or email@example.com.
I encourage you to nominate colleagues who are deserving of this important recognition.
Very truly yours,
Teresa A. Sullivan
