Community MLK Celebration

January 15, 2014

To the University community:

As we begin the new year, I invite you to participate in the 2014 Community MLK Celebration in January. Members of the University and Charlottesville communities will gather to pay tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and his message of justice, empowerment, equality, and peace.

This year's Community MLK Celebration will once again include exceptional speakers, performances, films, and engaging discussions. Featured events include best-selling author, scholar, and cultural critic Michael Eric Dyson as the 2014 keynote speaker and an event at the Paramount Theater honoring U.Va.'s Rita Dove for her contributions as an American poet and author.

Please join me and other members of our community as we come together to reflect on Dr. King's principles and their implications in our lives and in our society. For details on events that will take place during the last two weeks in January, please visit I hope that you will plan on attending one or more of these events, as we work together to build the just society that Dr. King envisioned for us.
