Email Sent from University Human Resources to Foreign National Employee Community

“University of Virginia Human Resources Compliance and Immigration Services (CIS) staff are monitoring and analyzing executive orders issued by the White House this past week that address immigration. This includes our review of the Order signed late Friday: EXECUTIVE ORDER: PROTECTING THE NATION FROM FOREIGN TERRORIST ENTRY INTO THE UNITED STATES.

Be assured that we will maintain vigilance in our review of these directives from the White House.  We are consulting university leaders and experts as well as seeking the advice from the immigration attorneys appointed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to serve the state's public universities, including UVa.  Any international employee, faculty, scholar and member of our university community should embrace the invitation from HRCIS to consult with us if you have any questions or concerns.  We will be holding a forum to field any questions and concerns, and will send an update with detailed information about the forum, shortly.

HRCIS can be reached via e-mail at, or by phone, 434-982-0123.

Please note that we strongly advise anyone who might be impacted, and who has travel plans in the coming days, to defer travel outside of the United States, including Canada, until there is further clarity and legal analysis of the developing situation. If you must travel, please seek legal counsel before you do so.

We, as do colleagues across UVA, welcome and celebrate the University's international community - students, scholars, faculty, staff, and family members. Please know that we continue to be ready to support you.”
